You Have Carried This Pain Long Enough
Years of training, deployments, jumps, gear, and impact have a way of catching up. You have probably done the medications. The physical therapy. The injections. Maybe the VA recommended surgery. Maybe another chiropractor adjusted you for months without lasting change. The pain is still there.
Most clinics treat back pain the same way. Bolt Chiropractic is built to treat the cases general clinics refer out.
Three Technologies Most Clinics Do Not Offer
Spinal Decompression
Pulls pressure off compressed discs and pinched nerves. Treats herniated discs, sciatica, and chronic back and neck pain.
Shockwave Therapy
Breaks down scar tissue and triggers healing in damaged soft tissue. Treats chronic tendon, joint, and muscle pain from old injuries.
Therapeutic Laser
Reduces inflammation and repairs tissue at the cellular level. Treats nerve pain, joint pain, and chronic inflammation.
Used together, these three technologies treat conditions that adjustments alone do not fix.
This Clinic Treats
- Service-related back and neck pain
- Chronic pain from old injuries
- Herniated and bulging discs
- Sciatica and radiating leg pain
- Failed back surgery pain
- Chronic shoulder, hip, and knee pain
- Joint pain from carrying gear and repetitive impact
- Plantar fasciitis and foot pain
- Nerve pain and degenerative disc disease
- Chronic inflammation and tendon injuries
If your case is routine, a general chiropractor will help you. If your pain is complex and has failed other treatments, you are in the right place.

How VA Community Care works at this office
You do not pay out of pocket when the VA authorizes your care here. The process has four steps.
- Ask your VA primary care provider for a referral to chiropractic care. The VA approves community care when the VA facility cannot provide the service within its drive-time or wait-time standards, or when it is in your best medical interest. Chiropractic is a covered benefit.
- The VA issues an authorization through the Community Care Network. It names the provider, the number of visits, and the dates covered. Bring the authorization or referral number to your first visit.
- The office verifies the authorization before treatment starts and bills the VA directly. Nothing comes to you.
- When the approved visits run out and you still need care, Dr. Bolt sends a progress report to your VA provider requesting an extension.
If you are unsure whether you qualify, call the office. The front desk has worked with the VA Community Care Network for years and will tell you what to ask your VA provider for.
Injuries by branch and job
Dr. Don Bolt, D.C. has treated veterans from every era of service for more than 35 years. The injuries follow the work.
Navy and Seabees. Naval Base Ventura County, with Port Hueneme and Point Mugu, sits minutes from the office. Sailors and Seabees arrive with back injuries from ladders and hatches, shoulder damage from heavy construction work, and knee problems from years on steel decks. Aircraft maintainers from Point Mugu bring neck and shoulder pain from overhead work.
Army and Marines. Rucking under 60 to 100 pounds for years compresses the lumbar discs. Airborne and infantry veterans show herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, and chronic knee and hip pain. Blast exposure adds neck injuries which were never imaged at the time.
Air Force and Coast Guard. Flight line work, long shifts standing, and small-boat operations produce repetitive-strain injuries to the back, feet, and shoulders.
All branches. Sleeping on the ground, carrying body armor, and repeated impact leave a pattern Dr. Bolt sees weekly: degenerated discs at two or more levels, facet arthritis, and nerve pain down one or both legs.
Veterans over 60
Vietnam-era and early Gulf War veterans are now in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. Their service injuries have had decades to progress into spinal stenosis, severe degenerative disc disease, and arthritis. Many have been told surgery is the only remaining option.
Dr. Bolt is certified in Cox Flexion-Distraction, a low-force decompression method designed for older and degenerated spines. Combined with laser and shockwave, it gives veterans over 60 a conservative option before surgery. The goal is the same as for every senior patient here: walk further, sleep through the night, and stay independent. The Senior Spine and Mobility Program is open to veterans using Community Care.
Records and documentation
Veterans need their care documented. The office provides:
- Treatment notes and progress reports to your VA provider at the intervals the authorization requires
- Copies of your records on request for your own files
- Imaging review and written findings when you bring VA MRI or X-ray reports
Dr. Bolt is a treating provider, not a VA-rated examiner. He documents your condition and treatment accurately. He does not provide disability ratings or compensation exams.

Frequently asked questions for veterans
Do I need a VA referral before my first visit?
For VA-paid care, yes. Ask your VA primary care provider for a chiropractic referral through Community Care. You are also welcome as a cash or Medicare patient without a referral.
How many visits does the VA authorize?
It varies by case. Initial authorizations often cover an evaluation and a set block of treatment visits. Dr. Bolt requests extensions when your progress supports more care.
I live in Port Hueneme. Is this office covered for me?
Yes. The office is at 445 W. 5th Street in Oxnard, a short drive from Naval Base Ventura County and inside the VA’s community care drive-time standard for most of Ventura County.
Can the VA see my records here?
Yes. Progress reports go to your VA provider as part of the Community Care process.
What if my pain does not respond?
Dr. Bolt tells you at the evaluation whether your case fits conservative treatment. If it does not respond by the midpoint of the plan, he says so and sends you back to your VA provider with a written report.
I am a veteran but not enrolled in VA care. Does that matter?
No. You are treated like any other patient. The office accepts Medicare and cash pay, and Dr. Bolt adapts the plan to your service history either way.
