This page covers your care after the first visit: your results, your written plan, what a treatment visit looks like and how Dr. Don Bolt, D.C. tracks your progress. For check-in, paperwork and the first exam, see your first visit.
Dr. Bolt has practiced in Ventura County for 35+ years. He sees every patient himself, from the report of findings to each re-exam.

Your report of findings
Before any care plan starts, Dr. Bolt sits down with you and goes over four things:
- What he found on your exam and any X-rays or MRI reports
- Your options, including care outside his office when another provider fits better
- How long he expects care to take
- What the plan costs and what your coverage pays
You decide whether to start. Nothing begins until you agree to the plan.
Your care plan
Most plans move through two phases, with a third you choose.
- Relief. Early visits focus on calming pain and inflammation so you sleep, sit and walk with less trouble. Visits run closer together in this phase.
- Correction and strength. As pain drops, care shifts to restoring movement and building the muscles supporting your spine. Visits spread out.
- Maintenance, your choice. Some patients come in for periodic check-ups after they finish. Dr. Bolt never requires a maintenance plan.
Visit frequency depends on your condition, and Dr. Bolt sets it at your report of findings.
A typical treatment visit
At each treatment visit, Dr. Bolt checks how you responded since the last visit, then treats. Depending on your plan, a visit combines:
- Chiropractic adjustments, including Cox® Flexion-Distraction
- Spinal decompression for disc and nerve pain
- Therapeutic laser or shockwave for inflamed or slow-healing tissue
- Corrective exercises you learn in the office and repeat at home
Not every patient gets every service. Dr. Bolt adds or drops a treatment based on how you respond.
How you feel after treatment
Mild soreness or stiffness for a day or two is common, especially after the first few visits. Most patients compare the feeling to the day after a new workout.
For the first 24 to 48 hours after a visit:
- Walk and move gently. Long periods on the couch make stiffness worse.
- Drink water.
- Use ice or heat the way Dr. Bolt shows you.
- Skip heavy lifting, hard workouts and long drives where you sit without a break.
- Do your home exercises as prescribed, not more.
Re-exams and progress checks
Dr. Bolt re-examines you at set points in your plan. He repeats the tests from your first exam and compares the results. You see what changed in range of motion, strength, walking and daily tasks.
If you stop improving, he tells you. The plan changes, or he refers you to another provider. He does not keep you coming in when care has stopped helping.
When to call a medical doctor or 911
Some symptoms need emergency or medical care, not a chiropractic visit. Call 911 or go to an emergency room if you notice:
- Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Numbness in the groin or inner thighs
- Leg weakness getting worse over hours or days
- Back pain with fever or chills
- New numbness or weakness after a fall or car crash
Call the office for anything else unusual after a visit, such as soreness lasting more than a few days.
Read patient reviews. Individual results vary. For coverage questions, see payment options.

Frequently asked questions
How many visits will I need?
The number depends on your condition, your age and how long you have had the problem. Dr. Bolt gives you an expected range at your report of findings.
Is soreness after an adjustment normal?
Yes. Mild soreness for a day or two is common. Soreness lasting longer, or sharp new pain, is worth a call to the office.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Heavy lifting, hard workouts and long stretches of sitting for the first day or two.
Do I have to keep coming forever?
No. Your plan has an end point. Maintenance visits after your plan are optional.
What if I am not improving?
Tell Dr. Bolt. He re-examines you, changes the plan or refers you to another provider. You stop care whenever you choose.
